Is the iPhone XR Worth the money?
Apple’s cheaper alternative to the iPhone X/XS. The iPhone XR is the 5C of its generation. Still a very good phone though (don’t get it twisted!) When the XR was announced it was a surprise to everyone. We were expecting an upgrade to the iPhone X. Not a downgrade. They gave us the XS too which was a clone of the iPhone X but with minor improvements but we all wanted more. At first it may have seemed like an uninspiring “S” year but little did we know the impact the iPhone XR would have on the Market. Apple had realized from previous years sales that people just don’t want to be buying £1000 phones. Its a lot of money, its not for everyone.
Buying a phone is a massive commitment nowadays and not many people are willing to go through mortgage like procedures all over an expensive high end phone. I’ve seen EE offering 100 pound contracts. The market is crazy right now! In 2017 Apple became the first in the market to charge over 4 digits for a mobile phone. The iPhone XR came one year later and came with Apple knowing about its limitations in the market so they targeted people who want to spend a little less.
Got rid of 3D touch
Lower resolution screen
LCD display instead of a OLED display
One way or another Apple had to cut some features from the X/XS to cut some costs. Whilst they did take away a lot of features they did include some unique selling points. This gave impressions to customers that getting the XR is not just a cheaper dimmed down version of the X phones. Rather its just another option.
Unique selling points (USP)
I don’t mean to make it sound like a business studies essay when I say “Unique selling Points” but there is no better way to put it. To make up for the loss of many features from the iPhone X/XS the iPhone XR has a couple of features only available with the specific product itself. Its Apples way of pulling you towards buying the device hence why I call them “unique selling points”. Features include…
Largest battery ever in an iPhone and best battery life
More colour options than the iPhone X/XS (6 in total!)
a bigger screen than the normal iPhone X/XS models (6.1″ compared to the 5.8″ of the iPhone X/XS)
VERDICT: The specialty features which come with the iPhone XR outweigh the loss of some features from the higher end iPhone’s. The iPhone XR is the best iPhone for anyone who has an iPhone 8 Plus and under. It bridges the gap between the older generation models and the new ones. If you want to have an iPhone which follows current technologies at a cheaper price then this is the one for you. If you have the iPhone X then stick with what you have as the iPhone XR is a downgrade! Overall I’ve really been impressed by the iPhone XR. A great phone for a good price. Lets see what Apple has in store for us in the future. Less than six months. We patiently wait!
